The story begins with the founder, William Penhaligon. A humble barber from Cornwall who rose to the royal court and trimmed the beard of the Shah of Persia. The year was 1870 and William's first perfume was Hammam Bouquet, inspired by the Turkish baths where he worked as a barber. The scent was exotic. It was exciting. It caused a sensation.
