The PEXUSB3S44V 4-port PCI Express USB 3.0 card allows you to add four dedicated 5-Gbps USB 3.0 ports to a PCIe x4-capable PC. This independent-port architecture improves USB 3.0 performance by transferring data to the computer on four separate channels, making file transfer faster.
When multiple devices are connected, the maximum bandwidth is distributed across all ports with traditional Single Bus USB 3.0 cards. By using four host controller chipsets, each port is operated on a separate, independent transmission channel. By allocating up to 5 Gbit/s to each USB port, performance bottlenecks are reduced and the total available bandwidth is effectively quadrupled to 20 Gbit/s.
With support for USB attached SCSI Protocol (UASP) , this USB 3.0 controller in combination with a UASP-enabled chassis is up to 70% faster than a conventional USB 3.0 (Note: UASP requires a compatible operating system). Using a more efficient protocol than the conventional USB (Bulk-only Transport) OFFERED, UASP technology optimizes transmissions by processing multiple commands simultaneously, significantly increasing transmission speed and reducing data transfer wait times. For more information, see our UASP test results below.
For high-power USB devices, this PCIe USB 3.0 card has an optional SATA or LP4 power connector for connecting to the system's power supply and providing up to 900 mA of power per port for USB 3.0 bus-powered devices (500 mA for USB 2.0). The USB 3.0 card also supports the USB Battery Charger Specification 1.2 (Apple Mode only), so you can charge compatible Apple devices (iPhones and iPads) faster than with a standard USB 3.0 port.
The controller card is compliant with USB 3.0 standards and backward compatible with existing USB 2.0/1.1 devices. For added versatility, the USB 3.0 PCIe card is equipped with a standard profile slot plate and is supplied with a low profile/half height slot plate for installation in compact computers.
Improved performance with UASP
UASP is supported on Windows® 8, 8.1, Server 2012, and Linux Kernel 2.6.37 or later. In tests, UASP showed up to 70% higher read speed and 40% higher write speed compared to a traditional USB 3.0 at peak performance.
At the same peak, UASP also showed a 80% reduction in processor resource requirements in the test. Test results were obtained using an Intel® Ivy Bridge system, 3.0 USB StarTech.com mezzanine cards, UASP-enabled StarTech.com-Gehäuse, and SATA III solid state drive.
