The bidirectional adapter converts IDE to SATA or SATA to IDE.

PATA2SATA3 is a bidirectional SATA/IDE adapter/converter that allows you to connect a serial ATA drive to an older IDE port or IDE drive to a SATA port on the motherboard.
With the SATA/IDE adapter, you can upgrade existing IDE systems to support SATA hard drives or optical drives, saving on the cost of a controller card and on the other hand the expansion slot otherwise required for the installation of a card.
